The Fuel Metering Pump for the Eberspächer Hydronic D5WS/D5WSC 22452203 is a specialized electromagnetic pulse pump. Unlike a standard automotive fuel pump that provides a constant flow, this pump delivers fuel in precise, timed "clicks" or pulses.

  •  Dual Function: It acts as both a transport pump (moving fuel from the tank to the heater) and a metering device (controlling exactly how much fuel enters the combustion chamber).

  • Pulse-Driven: The heater’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) controls the pump. By increasing or decreasing the speed of the "clicks," the heater adjusts its temperature output.

  • Internal Filter: Most original models contain a tiny, serviceable metal mesh strainer at the inlet side to prevent debris from clogging the internal piston.

  • Compatibility: It is specifically calibrated for the 24V electrical systems found in heavy trucks and machinery. Using a 12V pump on a 24V system (or vice versa) will cause the heater to malfunction or damage the ECU.

 

Signs of Faulty 22452203:

  •  Lack of "Clicking" Sound: When the heater starts its cycle, you should hear a rhythmic metallic clicking. If the heater fans turn on but you hear no clicking, the pump is either seized, has an electrical open circuit, or is not receiving power from the ECU.
  • Repeated Start Failures (Error Codes): The heater attempts to start twice and then locks out. Common Eberspächer fault codes include:
    • Code 047: Short circuit or interruption to the fuel pump.
    • Code 052: Safety time exceeded (no flame detected due to lack of fuel).
  • White Smoke During Startup: If the pump is weak or the internal filter is partially clogged, it may deliver an incorrect amount of fuel. This leads to poor combustion and heavy white smoke from the heater's exhaust.
  • Heater Cuts Out Under Load: The pump might work at low power but fail to deliver enough fuel when the heater tries to switch to "High" or "Boost" mode, causing the flame to extinguish.
  • Visible Leaks: Fuel weeping from the electrical connector or the hose nipples indicates an internal seal failure.
