Vehicle Fitment
1. Compatible Engine and Generator Families The "R" suffix in this part number indicates a factory-remanufactured or a specialized revised version of a classic Cummins Onan component. This manifold is engineered for heavy-duty commercial and stationary Cummins Onan Diesel and Gas Generator Sets, primarily fitting:
2. Common Vehicle Types & Applications Because this exhaust manifold is built to handle the rigorous duty cycles of enclosed mobile compartments, it is widely utilized across the following platforms:
The Onan EXHAUST MANIFOLD is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) heavy-duty cast metal component designed to collect and channel exhaust gases away from the engine cylinders.
1. What is it? This is a thick, heat-resistant iron casting that bolts directly onto the engine cylinder head. It acts as the initial collection point for the burning-hot spent fuel gases as they exit the exhaust valves, funneling them safely down into a single pipe connected to the generator's muffler and tailpipe system. 2. Core Functions
Signs of Faulty
1. Loud Tapping, Ticking, or Hissing Noises When an exhaust manifold cracks or its gasket fails, pressurized exhaust gas escapes through the breach. This creates a distinct, loud tapping or ticking sound, especially when the engine is cold. The noise often mimics a valve train tick but will change in volume or pitch when the generator goes under a heavy electrical load. 2. Strong Exhaust Odors (Diesel/Gas) Near the Vehicle If you smell raw exhaust fumes inside or around your RV, mobile clinic, or work truck while the generator is running, the manifold is likely leaking. Because these generators are integrated into vehicle bodies, a leaking manifold can allow deadly carbon monoxide (CO) to seep into the living or driving quarters. 3. Visible Black Soot Around the Cylinder Head A physical inspection of the manifold will often reveal the exact location of the failure. Look for fine, powdery black carbon/soot deposits blasted onto the engine block, surrounding wires, or near the mounting bolts. This soot is a definitive sign that gases are escaping past the sealing surface. 4. Melted Wires, Hoses, or Plastic Components Exhaust gas temperatures can easily exceed 1,200F (650C). If the manifold has a severe crack or blowout, it acts like a miniature blowtorch, shooting superheated gas directly onto nearby wiring harnesses, fuel lines, or plastic shrouds, causing them to melt or catch fire. 5. Loss of Generator Power or Black Smoke A cracked manifold alters the exhaust system's backpressure and can mess with the engine's scavenging efficiency. In turbo-charged configurations or modern systems with sensors, an exhaust leak before the piping can cause sluggish engine response, reduced power output under load, or excessive black smoke due to incomplete combustion. |
