• Redirects power from a horizontal shaft to a vertical shaft, or vice versa.

Unusual noises

• Grinding

These noises can indicate worn gears, damaged bearings, or inadequate lubrication.

• The gearbox vibrates more than normal during operation.
• Common causes include worn bearings, damaged gears, shaft misalignment, or an unbalanced load.

• Oil around the seals or gearbox housing.
• Low lubricant levels can lead to overheating and accelerated wear.

• The gearbox becomes unusually hot to the touch.
• Possible causes include:
  • Low or contaminated lubricant
  • Overloading
  • Excessive friction from worn components

• Output shaft rotates slower than expected.
• Reduced torque.
• Machine struggles to move or lift loads.

• Input or output shaft is hard to rotate manually (when the equipment is safely shut down).
• May indicate seized bearings or damaged gears.

• Too much movement between the input and output shafts.
• Often caused by worn gear teeth or bearings.

• During an oil change, shiny metal flakes or chips are found.
• This is a strong indication of internal gear or bearing wear.

• A burnt oil odor can indicate overheating or lubricant breakdown.

• The motor turns, but the output shaft does not.
• This may be caused by stripped gear teeth, a broken shaft, or a major internal failure.
