Vehicle Fitment

Compatible Vehicle Makes & Applications

Part number is commonly engineered as an OEM/OES replacement compressor for European commercial vehicle platforms, including:

  • Mercedes-Benz: Actros, Axor, Atego, and SK/MK series trucks.

  • MAN: TGA, TGS, TGX, and F2000 series.

  • DAF / IVECO: Selected heavy-duty commercial truck chassis and bus platforms.

  • Commercial Buses & Coaches: Neoplan, Setra, and Mercedes-Benz O-series buses.

The Twin-Cylinder Air Compressor is a heavy-duty, German-engineered pneumatic air compressor built for high-demand commercial vehicle braking and air suspension systems.

1. What is it?

Part is a two-cylinder reciprocating piston compressor manufactured by Robur Bremse®. Driven directly by the vehicle's engine, it draws ambient air, compresses it using dual synchronized pistons, and feeds high-pressure air into the air brake tanks and auxiliary systems of heavy-duty trucks and buses.

2. Core Functions & Technical Advantages

  • High Output & Air Volume: The twin-cylinder configuration provides fast air recovery times and high volume output, making it ideal for multi-axle trucks, trailers, and transit buses with heavy air consumption.

  • Liquid Cooled Cylinder Head: Integrates directly into the engine’s coolant loop to manage thermal stress, prevent carbon build-up in air lines, and prolong internal valve life.

  • Engine Oil Lubrication: Connected to the engine’s pressurized oil system for continuous crankshaft, bearing, and piston lubrication.

  • OEM/OES Quality Standard: Engineered to meet or exceed original equipment manufacturer specifications for European commercial truck applications.

Signs of Faulty

1. Oil Carryover in Air System

Worn piston rings or cylinder wall scoring allow engine oil to pass into the compressed air stream:

  • Symptom: Oil or dark sludge draining from air tanks or discharging from the air dryer purge valve.

  • Consequence: Contaminates pneumatic brake valves, damages rubber seals in brake chambers, and clogs the air dryer cartridge.

2. Slow Air Recovery / Low Pressure Output

Wear on the internal reed/plate valves, head gasket, or piston rings reduces pumping efficiency:

  • Symptom: Unusually long wait time for air pressure to build from 85 PSI to 120 PSI at governed RPM.

  • Consequence: Triggers low-air warning buzzers/lights and delays vehicle departure.

3. Coolant Leaking / Cross-Contamination

A blown head gasket on the water-cooled valve plate allows engine coolant to mix with the air system or exhaust into the cooling system:

  • Symptom: Coolant loss without visible external leaks, milky moisture in air tanks, or combustion/air pressure building up in the engine expansion tank.

4. Excessive Mechanical Noise & Knocking

Worn crankshaft bearings, connecting rod bushings, or damaged drive gears cause abnormal mechanical sounds:

  • Symptom: Rhythmic metallic knocking or clattering coming from the compressor mounting location on the engine timing cover/gear housing.

5. Unloader Mechanism Failure

If the internal unloader valve sticks or fails to activate via the governor signal:

  • Symptom: The compressor continuously pumps air past cut-out pressure (causing safety relief valves to blow) OR fails to pump air entirely because the unloader remains open.
