A range solenoid valve is an electrically controlled valve used in a cooking range/stove, usually to control the flow of gas.

  • Controls gas flow: It opens or closes the gas passage when the appliance needs heat.
  • Provides safety: It can shut off the gas automatically if the appliance is turned off or a safety system detects a problem.
  • Automatic operation: The valve responds to an electrical signal, so the stove/oven doesn't need to be controlled manually at the gas valve.
  • Controls temperature: In an oven, the control system can repeatedly open and close the valve to maintain the desired temperature.

Signs of Faulty:

  • Burner or oven won’t ignite even though the igniter is working.
  • No gas reaches the burner when the control system calls for heat.
  • Oven heats intermittently—it works sometimes and not others.
  • Oven temperature is inconsistent because the valve isn't opening or closing properly.
  • Valve gets stuck open or closed, causing abnormal heating behavior.
  • You may hear a click from the electrical control, but the burner doesn't receive gas.
  • Electrical tests show an open or shorted solenoid coil when checked with a multimeter according to the manufacturer's specifications.
