A Bendix AD-9 Air Dryer is a heavy-duty truck air system component that removes moisture, oil vapor, and contaminants from compressed air before the air goes into the air brake system.

Signs of Faulty:
 
  1. Air leak from purge valve
    • Constant hissing from the bottom of the dryer.
    • One of the most common signs.
  2. Frequent or abnormal purging
    • Dryer purges too often, weakly, or continuously.
  3. Slow air pressure build-up
    • Truck takes longer than normal to reach operating air pressure.
  4. Excess moisture in air tanks
    • Water drains out of tanks frequently.
    • Indicates the desiccant is no longer drying air properly.
  5. Oil contamination in air system
    • Oily residue in tanks or valves.
    • Can indicate compressor or dryer failure.
  6. Frozen air lines or valves (cold weather)
