Description: Water Pump For Mack E7
Brand: Mack®
Condition: New
Part Number: 4103-5010284179

Vehicle Fitment

1. Core Engine Compatibility

This water pump is designed exclusively for the iconic Mack E7 Series inline-6 diesel engines (including E7-PLN and E7-Etech electronic unit pump configurations). It accommodates the specific belt drive layout, mounting bolt pattern, and coolant port configurations of the E7 platform.

2. Common Mack Truck Models

Since the Mack E7 engine was the workhorse of the Mack fleet throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, this water pump fits a wide range of classic vocational, highway, and severe-duty trucks, including:

  • Mack CH Series (e.g., CH613) – Highway line-haul tractors.

  • Mack RD Series (e.g., RD688, RD690) – Heavy-duty construction and dump trucks.

  • Mack DM Series – Severe-duty vocational mixer and utility trucks.

  • Mack CL Series – Heavy-haul and premium highway models.

  • Mack Granite (early CV713 models) equipped with the legacy E7 engine before the transition to MP engines.

Installation Note: To prevent premature coolant leaks, always replace the mounting gasket and ensure the mating surfaces on the engine block are completely clean and free of corrosion before installing the new pump.

The Water Pump is a heavy-duty, commercial-grade mechanical coolant pump. It is engineered specifically to maintain the thermal balance of legendary Mack E7 diesel engines under high load and severe operating conditions.

1. What is it?

Manufactured directly as an Original Equipment (OE) part for Mack Trucks, this water pump is the heart of the engine's cooling system. It is a heavy cast-iron unit containing a precision-balanced impeller, heavy-duty bearings, and high-performance seals designed to withstand the immense heat and vibration generated by heavy-duty Class 8 vocational and highway trucks.

2. Core Functions

  • Continuous Coolant Circulation: The pump constantly circulates coolant (antifreeze) from the radiator through the engine block, cylinder head, and oil cooler, absorbing combustion heat and preventing engine overheating.

  • Severe-Duty Durability: Unlike standard automotive water pumps, this unit features specialized industrial ceramic-to-carbon unitized seals to eliminate premature coolant leaks and ensure a long service life.

  • Precision Shaft and Bearings: Built with a high-capacity bearing assembly to handle the constant tension of the heavy engine drive belts without shaft deflection or play.

Signs of Faulty

1. Coolant Leaking from the Weep Hole

Like most heavy-duty water pumps, this Mack unit features a small "weep hole" on the pump housing. Its purpose is to allow a tiny amount of coolant to escape if the internal shaft seals are starting to fail. If you notice a steady drip, crusty green/red coolant stains, or puddles of antifreeze directly beneath the pump, the internal seal is compromised, and the pump must be replaced.

2. Engine Overheating or Fluctuating Temperatures

If the pump's internal impeller is slipping on the shaft, has eroded due to cavitation, or if the drive belt is slipping, the coolant flow rate drops drastically. You will notice the temperature gauge on your dash creeping into the hot zone, especially when pulling heavy loads or climbing steep grades.

3. Grinding, Growling, or Squealing Noises

If the internal bearings supporting the pump shaft dry out, wear down, or fail, they will emit a distinct mechanical noise. This can range from a high-pitched squeal under belt tension to a low, rough grinding or growling sound coming from the front of the E7 engine at idle.

4. Visible Play or Wobble in the Pump Pulley

With the engine safely turned off, grab the water pump pulley (or the fan clutch assembly if attached nearby) and try to wiggle it. If there is any noticeable physical play, looseness, or wobble, the heavy-duty bearings are completely shot. This is a critical warning; a wobbling shaft can suddenly snap or shred the drive belts, causing instant loss of cooling.

5. Low Coolant Levels and Sweet Antifreeze Odor

A slow, continuous leak from the water pump's mounting gasket or rear seal will gradually lower your coolant level. You may smell a distinct, sweet maple-syrup-like aroma of hot antifreeze while driving or immediately after parking your truck, even if you can't spot the exact puddle right away.

 Manufacturer information
Mack trucks are built to last, but when the time for repair and maintenance comes it’s strongly recommended to use genuine Mack® components. Designed and manufactured according to strict OEM specifications, Mack parts offer the same engineering and performance as their stock equivalent. This ensures a seamless fit, smooth installation, and reliable operation overall. Mack offers a wide range of genuine parts, including engine, exhaust, transmission, cab, and body parts and accessories. It also offers remanufactured components that offer the same good-as-new quality at a more accessible price range. All genuine Mack parts are tested in both the laboratory and field environments to ensure they meet or exceed industry standards.
