Vehicle Fitment

1. Compatible Equipment Applications This flexplate is specifically engineered for heavy-duty commercial and industrial Cummins Onan Diesel Generator Sets. It serves as the mechanical bridge inside the flywheel housing. It fits:
2. Common Vehicle Types Because these specific high-capacity generators are permanently mounted inside heavy vehicles, this part is highly sought after for:

The Onan FLEXPLATE is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) mechanical coupling disc designed to link a diesel engine directly to a generator's alternator rotor.
|
1. What is it? A flexplate is a stamped, high-tensile steel disc that replaces a traditional heavy flywheel in specialized generator setups. It bolts directly to the engine's crankshaft flange on one side, and to the generator's rotor shaft on the other. 2. Core Functions

Signs of Faulty
|
1. Loud Metal Clanking, Knocking, or Rattling Noises The most common indicator of a failing flexplate is a loud, metallic noise coming directly from the bell housing area (where the engine meets the generator). If the plate cracks or the bolt holes oval out, it will create a severe clanking, rattling, or knocking sound—especially during generator startup, shutdown, or when a heavy electrical load (like an A/C unit) kicks in. 2. Heavy Mechanical Vibrations A cracked or warped flexplate throws the rotating mass of the engine and generator rotor out of balance. This causes structural, harmonic vibrations that can shake the entire RV, mobile clinic, or truck chassis while the generator is running. 3. Engine Cranks but Generator Doesn't Spin (No Power Output) If the flexplate suffers a catastrophic structural failure and shears completely in half around the bolt circle, the engine's crankshaft will spin freely without turning the generator rotor. The engine will sound like it is running perfectly, but the generator will fail to produce any electricity, often throwing an under-frequency or speed fault code on the control panel. 4. Starter Engagement Issues or Grinding If the generator engine relies on gear teeth attached to the perimeter of the flexplate assembly for the starter motor to grab, a warped plate or stripped teeth will cause a loud grinding noise when you press the start button, or the starter may spin without cranking the engine. 5. Visible Metal Shavings or Dust During a physical inspection of the flywheel housing vents or inspection cover, finding fine steel dust, metal shavings, or rusted powder (fretting residue) indicates that the flexplate is cracking and the metal is rubbing violently under load. |
