Vehicle Fitment

1. Primary Brand & Truck Compatibility

The OEM part number is a standard factory identifier for PACCAR heavy-duty commercial truck networks. It is a direct fit for selected North American Class 8 trucks, specifically:

  • Peterbilt Trucks: Used primarily on Cab-Over-Engine (COE) models and specialty terminal tractor/yard spotter variants (such as the Peterbilt 320/520 low-cab-forward platforms).

  • Kenworth Trucks: Fits heavy-duty vocations requiring forward-tilting cab architectures for maintenance access.

2. Mechanical Integration

This pump serves as the pressure source for the vehicle’s dual or single cab tilt hydraulic cylinder lines. It mounts to the lower side of the frame rail or within an accessible exterior side compartment behind the cab, linking directly into the truck’s central hydraulic fluid reservoir system.

The Hydraulic Cab Tilt Pump is a premium, heavy-duty fluid power assembly designed to manage the lifting and lowering cycles of commercial truck cabins.

1. What is it?

This component is a self-contained hydraulic power unit. Depending on the fleet configuration, it acts as a manual hand-pump (operated via a jack handle) or an electro-hydraulic unit. It is engineered to withstand extreme outdoor environments, sub-zero winter temperatures, and constant road vibration without losing pressure.

2. Core Functions

  • High-Pressure Fluid Generation: It forces hydraulic oil under immense pressure (often exceeding 3,000 PSI) through the high-pressure lines into the cab tilt cylinders to lift cabs that weigh several tons.

  • Dual-Direction Control (Lift/Lower): The pump features an integrated directional control valve knob. Turning it to the "Up" position routes fluid to the bottom of the cylinders to tilt the cab forward; switching it to "Down" safely vents the fluid back to lower the cab onto its locks.

  • Safety Velocity Fuses / Checks: It contains precise internal check valves that prevent the cabin from violently dropping or crashing down in the event of a sudden hydraulic hose rupture during servicing.

Signs of Faulty

1. The Cab Fails to Lift or Only Rises Partially

When you pump the handle (or activate the electric switch) and the cabin does not budge, or it gets stuck halfway up, the pump is failing. This is usually caused by worn-out internal piston seals that can no longer generate the necessary $3,000\text{ PSI}$ to overcome the weight of the cab, or an internal pressure relief valve stuck in the open position.

2. The Cabin "Drifts" or Slowly Sinks Back Down

If you lift the cab to its full tilt angle, stop pumping, and notice the cab slowly creeping or dropping back down on its own, the internal check valves are faulty. When these internal sealing balls or seats get scarred or contaminated with debris, they leak fluid backward, causing a dangerous loss of hold.

3. External Oil Leaks Around the Selector Valve or Pump Shaft

A highly noticeable sign of failure is hydraulic fluid leaking externally. Constant road salt, grime, and thousands of stroke cycles wear down the rubber seals around the direction control knob or the main pump plunger shaft. If you see clean hydraulic oil dripping down the frame rail from the pump body, the internal seals are blown.

4. Spongy Feel or Complete Lack of Resistance in the Lever

When operating the pump manually, there should be a firm, distinct mechanical resistance on each downward stroke. If the lever feels completely light, "spongy," or falls through its stroke without any effort, the pump has either sucked in air due to a compromised seal or the internal intake/discharge valves are jammed.

5. Milky or Discolored Hydraulic Fluid

If you check the pump’s fluid level or vent cap and notice the hydraulic oil looks milky, frothy, or cloudy, water and moisture have contaminated the reservoir. This destroys the lubricating properties of the fluid, causing rapid internal rust, scoring of the precision pump bores, and total hydraulic failure.
