Fitment Guide

  • Transit buses
  • Commercial/passenger buses equipped with Thermo King A/C systems
  • Thermo King bus HVAC/air-conditioning equipment

An electric fan motor is the part of a fan or cooling system that uses electrical energy to rotate the fan blades. The rotating blades move air, which helps cool equipment, remove heat, or circulate air.

  • Move air across the evaporator or condenser.
  • Transfer heat so the refrigeration system can cool effectively.
  • Maintain the desired cargo temperature.
  • Improve airflow inside the refrigerated space.
  • Help the refrigeration system operate efficiently.
  • Prevent components from overheating by providing necessary airflow.

Signs of Faulty

  • Fan does not spin — the motor may be completely failed or not receiving power.
  • Fan spins slowly — the motor may be weak, have worn bearings, or have an electrical problem.
  • Fan starts and stops — can indicate an intermittent electrical connection or overheating motor.
  • Unusual noise — grinding, squealing, buzzing, or rattling can indicate worn bearings or internal damage.
  • Motor gets very hot — excessive heat can indicate the motor is overloaded or failing.
  • Burning smell — may indicate overheated windings or an electrical failure.
  • Excessive vibration — could be caused by damaged bearings, a bent shaft, or a damaged fan.
  • Blown fuse or tripped breaker — a failing motor can draw excessive current or short internally.
  • Poor refrigeration performance — insufficient airflow can cause the refrigeration system to struggle to maintain the desired temperature.
  • Temperature fluctuations — in a Thermo King unit, inadequate fan operation can contribute to inconsistent cargo temperatures.
