An Engine Control Module (ECM) 12597191- sometimes called an Engine Control Unit (ECU) - is basically the computer that runs your car’s engine.

 

The ECM constantly monitors and adjusts how your engine operates to keep it running smoothly, efficiently, and within emissions standards.

It uses data from sensors all over the engine to control things like:

  • Fuel injection – how much fuel to send into each cylinder

  • Ignition timing – when the spark plugs should fire

  • Air–fuel ratio – how much air mixes with the fuel

  • Idle speed – keeping the engine running smoothly when you’re not pressing the gas

  • Variable valve timing – adjusting valves for better performance or fuel economy

P0603 Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error ECM lost stored data or can’t retain memory (often due to power issues).
P0604 Internal Control Module Random Access Memory (RAM) Error ECM has a problem accessing or using its RAM.
P0605 Internal Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) Error ECM’s permanent memory (firmware) has failed or is corrupted.
P0606 ECM/PCM Processor Fault General processor error—often means the ECM itself is failing.
P061A, P061B, P061C, P061D Internal Control Module Performance Errors The ECM’s internal checks show something isn’t processing correctly.
