14-17722-000 | Genuine Freightliner® Power Steering Gear Assembly

• Weight: 15 lbs
• Fit for: Freightliner

• Functions:

  • Hydraulic pressure: The spool valve directs pressurized hydraulic fluid to one side of a piston within the gear assembly. This pressurizes the fluid and creates a significant force on the piston.

  • Force multiplication: When the driver turns the steering wheel, it rotates a shaft inside the gear assembly. This shaft connects to a spool valve that controls the flow of hydraulic fluid within the system.

  • Turning the wheels: The force generated by the pressurized fluid on the piston is then transferred through a rack and pinion mechanism or a sector shaft, ultimately turning the front wheels in the desired direction.

  • Effort reduction: Compared to a non-powered steering system, a hydraulic power steering gear assembly significantly reduces the physical effort required by the driver to turn the wheel, especially at low speeds and during parking maneuvers.
