Vehicle Fitment

1. Primary Vehicle Fitment

  • Chevrolet Express 1500: Model Years 2009, 2010 (Base, LS, LT trims; Cargo and Passenger Vans).

  • GMC Savana 1500: Model Years 2009, 2010 (Base, LS, LT trims; Cargo and Passenger Vans).

2. Engine & Option Compatibility

  • 4.3L V6 (Gasoline)

  • 5.3L V8 (Gasoline & Flex-Fuel)

  • Chassis Spec: 1/2-Ton (1500 series) platforms equipped with Active Brake Control / StabiliTrak.

3. Technical & Installation Notes

  • Direct Factory Replacement: Manufactured to exact General Motors original equipment specifications for reliable CAN-bus communication and system response.

  • Programming Requirement: Installing a replacement EBCM requires SPS programming and software flashing using a GM diagnostic tool (Tech2 or MDI) to program the module to the vehicle’s specific VIN, gear ratio, and tire dimensions.

The ABS Module is an Original Equipment (OE) Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) engineered specifically for 2009–2010 Chevrolet Express 1500 and GMC Savana 1500 full-size vans.

1. Core Function

This electronic unit acts as the main command center for the vehicle’s active braking and chassis dynamics systems:

  • Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS): Monitors wheel speed sensors and rapidly pulses hydraulic brake fluid pressure to prevent wheel lockup and maintain steering control during panic stops.

  • StabiliTrak (Electronic Stability Control): Detects skidding or loss of traction and selectively applies individual brakes to help keep the van on its intended path.

  • Traction Control System (TCS): Manages brake application and engine torque to prevent wheel spin during acceleration on slippery surfaces.

2. Key Specifications

  • Application: 2009–2010 Chevrolet Express 1500 & GMC Savana 1500 (4.3L V6 and 5.3L V8 models).

  • Component Type: Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM / ABS Microcontroller).

  • Installation Requirement: Mandatory VIN-specific programming (SPS) using a GM diagnostic tool (Tech2 or MDI) is required after physical installation to pair the module with the vehicle’s powertrain and body control computers.

Signs of Faulty

1. Warning Lights on the Dashboard

  • ABS Warning Light: Illumination of the yellow ABS light on the instrument cluster.

  • Traction / StabiliTrak Warning Light: The electronic stability control light remains continuously lit.

  • Driver Information Center (DIC) Messages: Text alerts such as "Service StabiliTrak", "Service Traction Control", or "Service Brake System".

2. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Scanning the vehicle's electronic brake control module (EBCM) with a GM-compatible OBD-II scanner will reveal diagnostic codes:

  • C0265 / C0550: Internal electronic circuit or memory malfunction inside the EBCM PCB.

  • C0035 – C0050: Wheel speed sensor circuit fault codes (frequently caused by cracked internal solder joints inside the module rather than actual bad wheel sensors).

  • U0121: Lost Communication with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module over the CAN bus network.

3. Continuous ABS Pump Running (Battery Drain)

A failed internal relay or shorted power transistor on the module circuit board can supply constant power to the ABS pump motor. The pump will continuously hum/run even with the ignition turned off and key removed, resulting in a dead battery.

4. Loss of ABS & Wheel Lockup During Emergency Braking

When the module enters failure mode, the anti-lock feature shuts down completely, reverting the van to standard mechanical hydraulic braking. Under hard braking or wet conditions, the tires will lock up, causing skidding and increased stopping distance.

5. Spongy Pedal or Erroneous ABS Activation

Faulty valve control drivers inside the electronic module can lead to improper hydraulic pressure regulation. This can manifest as an unusually spongy pedal or unexpected pedal chatter/pulsation during low-speed, normal stopping on dry roads.
