Vehicle Fitment

1. Compatible Vehicles

  • 2009–2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD / 3500 HD

  • 2009–2010 GMC Sierra 2500 HD / 3500 HD

  • 2009–2010 Chevrolet Suburban 2500

  • 2009–2010 GMC Yukon XL 2500

2. Compatible Engines & Drivetrains

This module works with both 2WD (RWD) and 4WD configurations across the heavy-duty engine lineup:

  • 6.0L Vortec V8 Gasoline (L96 / LY6)

  • 6.6L Duramax V8 Turbo-Diesel (LMM)

The Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) Module is the primary electronic control unit (EBCM) that manages the active safety and braking systems on 2009–2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD / 3500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD / 3500 HD heavy-duty trucks.

1. What is it?

The module acts as the digital processor ("brain") for your truck's hydraulic brake assembly. It processes signals sent from individual wheel speed sensors to regulate braking pressure during hard stops, preventing wheel lockup and maintaining steering control under heavy towing or slick road conditions.

2. Integrated Safety Systems

This module coordinates three critical electronic safety programs:

  • Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS): Modulates hydraulic fluid pressure to prevent skidding during sudden deceleration.

  • StabiliTrak® (Electronic Stability Control): Detects vehicle instability or skidding and selectively applies individual brakes to keep the truck on its intended path.

  • Traction Control System (TCS): Manages wheel slip during acceleration by limiting engine power or pulsing the brakes on slipping wheels.

Signs of Faulty

1. Warning Lights & DIC Messages

The primary symptom is illuminated warning indicators on the gauge cluster accompanied by Driver Information Center (DIC) messages:

  • ABS Warning Light stays continuously lit.

  • Traction Control / StabiliTrak Light remains on.

  • Red Brake Warning Light may illuminate if communication is completely lost.

  • Messages such as "Service StabiliTrak", "Service Traction Control", or "Service Trailer Brake System".

2. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Reading fault codes with a GM-compatible OBD-II scan tool will typically yield EBCM circuit and communication errors:

  • C0265 / C0550: Internal Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) circuit / memory fault.

  • C0035 – C0050: Wheel speed sensor circuit fault codes (frequently caused by broken solder joints inside the module PCB rather than bad sensors).

  • U0121: Lost Communication with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module.

3. Continuous ABS Pump Running (Battery Drain)

A failed pump relay transistor on the circuit board can cause the ABS hydraulic pump motor to run continuously—even with the key removed from the ignition. Left unattended, this will drain the truck's battery completely overnight.

4. Loss of ABS & Wheel Lockup During Hard Stops

Because the faulty module disables ABS functionality, the truck reverts to standard hydraulic braking. Under sudden stops or heavy loads/towing on wet, icy, or loose surfaces, the wheels will lock up, causing skidding and severe tire flat-spotting.

5. Trailer Brake Controller Malfunctions

On HD trucks equipped with Integrated Trailer Brake Controllers (ITBC), a failing module can prevent electric trailer brakes from receiving proper brake signal pressure data, triggering trailer system fault warnings or loss of trailer braking.
