Vehicle Fitment
1. Engine Platform Compatibility This pressure regulator valve is engineered specifically for Cummins flagship 15-liter displacement platforms:
2. Common Vehicle & Equipment Fitment Because the ISX15 and QSX15 engines are highly versatile, this valve fits an extensive range of commercial transport trucks and industrial equipment, including:
The Regulator Valve is a highly specialized mechanical relief valve designed to manage pressure inside the fuel pump of Cummins 15-liter (ISX15 and QSX15) heavy-duty diesel engines.
1. What is it? The 3348322 valve is a critical safety and control component installed directly on or within the fuel pump housing of Cummins ISX/QSX15 engines (most notably utilized on Euro 3 and similar emission-era dual-overhead-cam platforms). It is a precision mechanical spring-and-plunger assembly designed to regulate the pressure of the fuel before it is sent downstream to the high-pressure injectors. 2. Core Functions & Responsibilities
Signs of Faulty
1. Hard Starting or Extended Crank Times If the valve's internal spring loses tension or the plunger gets stuck open, fuel pressure will bleed off back to the tank while the truck is parked. When you try to start the engine, the fuel pump has to work much longer to rebuild the necessary pressure, resulting in an extended crank time or a complete hard start. 2. Rough Idle, Engine Hesitation, and Misfires An unstable regulator valve causes pressure fluctuations in the fuel system. This inconsistent fuel supply makes it difficult for the injectors to deliver a precise spray pattern. You will likely notice a rough, shaking idle, engine hesitation under mild acceleration, or random cylinder misfires. 3. Significant Loss of Power Under Heavy Load When pulling a heavy load or climbing a grade, the ISX15/QSX15 engine demands a high volume of fuel. If the pressure regulator valve is leaking internally or venting fuel prematurely, the system cannot maintain the required volume. This starves the high-pressure fuel rail, causing the engine to lose power and feel sluggish. 4. Active Fuel Pressure Fault Codes (MIL / Check Engine) The engine's computer monitors fuel rail and pump inlet pressures closely. A failing mechanical regulator will quickly trigger active diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) on your dashboard. Common codes include those for "Fuel Pump Delivery Pressure Low" or "Fuel Rail Pressure - Data Valid But Below Normal Operating Range." 5. Damaged O-Rings or Debris in the Valve Cartridge During physical inspection, if you unscrew the 3348322 valve cartridge and find that the black or red rubber O-rings are torn, flattened, or missing, fuel is bypassing the valve. Additionally, any tiny metal shavings caught inside the valve's screen point to a failing fuel pump upstream, which has physically jammed the regulator open. |
