A Suspension Alignment Collar Kit is a set of precision-machined collars (also called alignment sleeves or locating collars) that fit around suspension mounting bolts. Their purpose is to keep suspension components accurately aligned and prevent unwanted movement.

  • Maintain accurate wheel alignment
    • Keeps suspension mounting points centered.
    • Helps prevent small shifts that can affect camber, caster, and toe.
  • Improve steering response
    • Reduces play in the suspension.
    • Makes steering feel more direct and predictable.
  • Increase handling stability
    • Helps the suspension maintain its intended geometry during:
      • Cornering
      • Braking
      • Acceleration
    • Can improve driver confidence, especially during spirited driving.
  • Reduce suspension movement
    • Fills the gap between mounting bolts and bolt holes.
    • Minimizes movement of the subframe or suspension components under load.
  • Promote even tire wear
    • More consistent alignment can reduce uneven tire wear over time.
  • Improve vehicle consistency
    • Helps the vehicle behave more consistently over bumps and during quick direction changes.

Signs of Faulty:

  • Loose or wandering steering
    • The vehicle doesn't track straight.
    • Steering may feel less precise than normal.
  • Wheel alignment won't stay within specifications
    • The vehicle repeatedly goes out of alignment after it has been adjusted.
    • This may indicate movement at the suspension or subframe mounting points.
  • Clunking or knocking noises
    • Clunks from underneath the vehicle when driving over bumps, accelerating, or braking.
    • May occur if the collars are loose or the mounting bolts are not properly torqued.
  • Uneven tire wear
    • Tires wear more on one edge or develop irregular wear patterns.
    • This can happen if suspension alignment changes due to movement.
  • Vehicle pulls to one side
    • The vehicle drifts left or right on a level road despite correct tire pressure.
    • Alignment changes caused by loose mounting points may contribute.
  • Excessive vibration
    • Vibrations felt through the steering wheel or chassis.
    • Could indicate improper installation or loose suspension hardware.
  • Visible damage or corrosion
    • Cracked, bent, or heavily corroded collars.
    • Damaged collars may no longer properly center the mounting bolts.
  • Loose mounting bolts
    • If the bolts securing the collars loosen, the collars cannot keep the suspension components accurately positioned.
