  • IC Bus (International Commercial integrated school and commercial buses)

2. Engine Series and Applications

The B2UV turbocharger platform is most commonly matched to Navistar's proprietary medium-duty inline-6 diesel engines. It provides the exact airflow metrics, exhaust flange sizing, and oil/coolant port alignments required for:

  • Navistar DT466 / MaxxForce DT engines (typically late 2000s to mid-2010s emissions eras).

  • MaxxForce 9 and MaxxForce 10 engine platforms.

  • Application Note: It is widely utilized in medium-duty vocational trucks such as the International DuraStar (4300/4400 series), WorkStar (7000 series), and conventional regional transport trucks.


A turbocharger (often just called a turbo) is a device that forces more air into an engine so it can make more power and better efficiency without getting bigger.

 

1. Increase engine power

  • A turbo pushes more air into the cylinders

  • More air allows more fuel to be burned

  • Result: more horsepower and torque from the same engine size

2. Improve fuel efficiency

  • Smaller turbo engines can make the same power as larger engines

  • Smaller engines use less fuel at light loads

Signs of Faulty 

 

1. Major Loss of Engine Power and Poor Acceleration

The primary function of the B2UV turbocharger is to provide high-pressure boost. If the internal compressor wheel is damaged, the variable geometry mechanism (if equipped) is seized, or the bearings are failing, the turbo cannot build adequate boost pressure. The driver will experience severe engine lagging, slow throttle response, and an inability to maintain speed under a heavy load.

2. Thick Blue-Gray or Black Exhaust Smoke

  • Blue-Gray Smoke: Indicates that the internal precision oil seals inside the turbocharger housing have ruptured. Engine oil leaks directly into the hot turbine housing, burning in the exhaust system.

  • Black Smoke: Indicates air starvation. If the turbo cannot supply enough oxygen to match the fuel being injected, the combustion chamber runs rich, resulting in unburnt diesel being expelled as thick black soot.

3. Loud Screeching, Whining, or "Siren" Noises

A healthy turbocharger produces a soft, smooth whistle. If you hear a loud, high-pitched screeching, metal grinding, or a sound resembling a distant police siren under acceleration, the internal shaft bearings are worn down. This allows the compressor wheel blades to physically scrape against the outer aluminum housing at high RPMs.

4. Massive Oil Consumption and Accumulation in Charge Pipes

If the International engine is mysteriously losing large amounts of engine oil without any visible external leaks, the turbocharger seals are a primary suspect. Inspect the cold-side charge-air cooler (intercooler) pipes; if they are filled with pooling, liquid engine oil, the turbo seals have failed catastrophically.

5. "Low Boost" Check Engine Light (CEL) and Fault Codes

The engine’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) constantly monitors intake manifold pressure. A failing 5010702R91 turbocharger will trigger dashboard warning lamps accompanied by diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to low boost pressure, turbocharger actuator performance, or mass airflow mismatches.
