The ABS control module monitors and controls the anti-lock braking system in your vehicle. Its job is to prevent the wheels from locking up during hard or emergency braking, which helps the driver maintain steering control and vehicle stability.

Functions:

Monitors wheel speed sensors

Constantly checks the rotation speed of each wheel.
Detects if a wheel is about to lock up (stop rotating during braking).

Controls hydraulic brake pressure

Adjusts brake pressure sent to each wheel.
Rapidly pulses brake pressure to prevent lock-up — this is the "pulsating" feeling in the pedal during ABS engagement.

Communicates with the vehicle's computer systems

Interfaces with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Brake System Warning System, and sometimes Stability Control systems (ESP, ESC).
Stores diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for ABS-related issues.

Works with other safety systems

May support Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) by modulating braking force at individual wheels to maintain vehicle control.
