An Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is a part of a car’s engine emissions system. Its job is to send some of the engine’s exhaust gas back into the intake. This lowers combustion temperatures and helps reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
| 1. Engine burns fuel → produces hot exhaust gases. 2. EGR valve opens → allows a controlled amount of exhaust gas back into the intake. 3. Exhaust mixes with fresh air → this reduces the amount of oxygen available for combustion. 4. Combustion temperature decreases → the engine burns at a lower peak temperature. 5. NOx formation decreases → fewer nitrogen oxide pollutants are produced. 6. Exhaust emissions are reduced → helping the vehicle meet emissions standards. |
