A 2-speed air-operated fan clutch is a heavy-duty engine cooling fan clutch that uses compressed air to control the fan at two operating speeds.

Signs of Faulty:

1. Engine overheating
- Fan doesn't engage at high speed when coolant temperature rises.
- Temperature climbs especially during heavy loads, climbing hills, or hot weather.
- This is one of the most serious signs.
2. Fan runs at high speed all the time
- You hear a loud “roaring” fan even when the engine is cold.
- Reduced fuel economy and engine power.
- Excessive fan noise.
3. Fan won't engage
- Engine temperature rises, but the fan doesn't noticeably speed up.
- Could indicate an air-supply problem, solenoid problem, or failed clutch.
4. Fan stays in low speed
- The fan operates, but airflow isn't sufficient when high cooling is required.
- Engine may run normally under light load but overheat under heavy load.
5. Fan cycles incorrectly
- Fan repeatedly switches between speeds when it shouldn't.
- Can indicate a problem with the air control valve, solenoid, temperature sensor, or clutch itself.
6. Air leaking around the clutch
- Hissing sound near the fan clutch.
- Air pressure drops when the clutch is commanded to engage.
